Having a loyal audience makes all the difference to a freelancer, solopreneur, coach, or consultant. Here are three simple steps to take each day to build your audience fast.

There’s an old saying that everything works if you do it consistently enough for long enough. But, some things work faster than others.

Here are three things to do each day. By doing them consistently, every day, you will build an audience that is loyal and that grows steadily. And each loyal fan is worth hundreds of cold names on a giant email list.

A quick analogy: You probably have several things that you do every morning as part of getting ready to face the day. You probably also have several things that you do every night before bed.

You likely don’t feel quite right if you leave the house for the day without taking a shower, getting dressed, and brushing your teeth. These things are just a basic part of your daily routine.

The three steps that I’ll show you below are kind of like that. They should just be part of your daily routine. You should get to the point where you don’t feel quite right if you haven’t done them for the day.

Make 10 New Friends On Social Media

Every day, make ten new friends on social media. These are friends that you would like to have as customers or clients.

It’s not enough to just send them a friend request, or to jointly follow each other. What you want to do is to begin a dialog and start building a relationship. Make use of the Lists feature of your social network to help manage this.

The intent is that you will invite them at an appropriate time to receive your email newsletter. This can be pretty pretty simple. Ask, “Are you getting my email newsletter? Well, if you’ll give me your email address, I’ll make sure you get the next one.”

Create A Piece Of Content

Creating content is one of the ways that you build your authority online. And, it is this authority that brings the social proof that attracts people to you.

Content can take a lot of forms. It can be a blog post, a video blog post on YouTube, or even a simple meme. It doesn’t have to be a 1500 word masterpiece of writing. Sometimes just a 3-minute video goes a long way.

Create your piece of content each day and post links to it (or the image itself, if it’s a meme) on your various social networks. By doing this, you convey to your audience that you are everywhere.

This helps your audience grow their confidence in you and their loyalty toward you.

Write To Your List

Write an email message to your email list every day.

Yes, EVERY DAY.

To be frank, you will eventually get to a point where you write your email list two or three times a week. But to begin with, write Your List every day.

This is all about building the habits of consistency. You may have a few people who unsubscribe from your list because of too many emails. But that’s OK.

Those who stay are those who will become the core of your loyal audience.

If you need any suggestions on the types of email messages to send to your list, look at my earlier post, 5 Types of Emails to Bond and Build Trust with Your List.

These three things, done consistently every day, will help you build an amazingly loyal audience. It may seem slow at first. But you will find that soon you have hundreds and even thousands of extremely loyal fans. (Thanks to Diane Hochman for teaching me these three keys.)
